What is a digital book? Kindle? Sony? Apple? everything you know?

I want to surprise my brother who is very ill and was hospitalized with a gift of digital books. It makes reading very much. However, if you plan to use the device many functions other than reading, then iPad may be your choice. The price difference is very important, as iPad is almost twice the price of the Kindle 2, plus additional charges for monthly data plan if you want to access the Internet.
